Kabuki is one of Japan’s most enduring performing arts, combining drama, music, and dance in a form that has reflected popular culture for over 400 years. Performed exclusively by men, it continues to evolve, balancing classic works with contemporary expression. Ebizo Ichikawa, born in 1977, is a leading figure in Kabuki and a member of the famed Ichikawa lineage founded in the 17th century. In November 2022, he inherits the prestigious Danjuro stage name, the highest honor in Kabuki. The dial’s Kakiiro reddish-brown color traces back to the Ichikawa family’s Kabuki costumes and remains a stage favorite today. Its graduated tone adds depth, while gold-toned hands and indices stand out clearly. The leather strap features a Kakiiro lining, a nod to Edo-period customs of hiding vivid colors. The Asanoha hemp leaf pattern on the dial completes the design, echoing a motif long associated with Kabuki costumes and Japanese tradition.
